Q&A: As a Learner Driver, Can My Boyfriend Drive Me to Hospital in My Car When I Am in Labour?

Question by WiggyWoo:I own and insure the vehicle, have a full licence for 10 years and he would be on the insurance too. It is just I guessed it would be invalid if I was in labour. We are expecting and trying to plan my trip to hospital when the time comes, by looking at all alternatives. Has anybody asked their insurance firm the same issue? Thanks.

If he’s insured on your automobile then he can drive you to the hospital, and indeed anywhere else in the country! The fact that you’re in labour ought to make no odds.

Edit. Oh HE’S the learner driver. I misread that lol. I don’t know in that case lol. It’s legal for you to take him out to practice, so just say u started going into labour half way through the practice drive for him. Why shouldn’t they think you? And that’s even if you get caught.

You’ll be fine. Hope you have a healthy baby =)

A taxi may well be a much better and safer alternative – possibly book it in advance, giving rough dates and asking if they can put you to the leading of their list when the time comes.

As you say, you may possibly be incapacitated at the time and a learner driver needs to concentrate on driving, rather than be distracted by you in labour – it may possibly be far better to be safer rather than sorry

Being driven to hospital by a learner driver wouldnt be the finest way to get to hospital in my opinion! Becoming in labour would be stressfull enough lol, attempt a taxi firm or a relative that can be on standby on your due dates.
Dont know the legal side of things, but i feel it would be achievable. You cant be drunk whilst giving a lesson, but in labour, yeah, you could pull this off. If any complications arose, you’re defence would be that you wnet into labour even though giving a lesson!
    Great luck

If he has a license by then, yes. If not, no, because you would not be able to supervise his driving nor be able to take over need to he get in trouble. That’s the legal answer. Practical answer is if you had no other way to get there, they probably wouldn’t say considerably, but how is he to get home?

Not a wise concept as how is he going to get back for starters? Plus as stated, he Requirements to be concentrating on driving and you Want to be concentrating on how he is driving.
